Become a Cloud Granny
Your Role as an eMediator
Your main role as an eMediator (Granny) is to provide positive encouragement. You are not there to teach or give lessons — rather, to moderate sessions, providing praise and support to enable the children to work as a community and take the lead in their own learning. You will help them develop their natural curiosity, question ideas, access different viewpoints and think through their discoveries.

What Can You Expect from the Children?
Talking to an eMediator over Zoom offers children the opportunity to be curious, friendly, imaginative and enthusiastic. Some may take a little while to warm up — they may be shy, wary or lacking in confidence at first. In some cases, their English may be very limited and you will need to find creative ways to communicate. The important thing is to persevere. Be encouraging and consistent, and soon they will start to amaze you!
What Will Sessions Look Like?
Every Granny Cloud Centre is unique — some have been in rural areas, some in urban. Some quiet, some wonderfully chaotic. Different centres present different challenges: noise, heat, limited space or unreliable internet connections. The eMediator’s task is to find ways around these challenges — and the children themselves are often the best at coming up with solutions!

- Encouraging them to find information on the internet
- Posing big questions for them to explore
- Responding to their own questions and interests
- Singing and playing games
- Arts, crafts and creative activities
How to Apply
- Complete the Application Form (minimum age 21; please commit to at least one year with this initiative).
- If your application is successful, you will be invited to an interview via Zoom with a Granny Cloud team member.
- Once approved, you will be added to our WhatsApp group and invited to our Grannies-only Facebook group — both restricted groups to ensure the privacy of Grannies and children alike. Orientation and ongoing support will be available through these channels, as well as via email, and through Granny Cloud ‘Tea Parties’ (where Grannies gather online to share challenges, strategies and celebrate breakthroughs).
